A Detailed Review Of The 2022 Air Jordan 4 Retro "Black Canvas"
T.R.I. Rating
Jordan Brand Drops an Easy-To-Style Air Jordan 4 For Fall 2022!
My Initial Impressions
Pros: Colorway and Materials
The all-black look is sleek and looks amazing on the Air Jordan 4 silhouette.
I like how the contrasting texture of the canvas and suede give the shoe more visual interest.
Cons: Potential Lack Of Durability
I can’t be sure how easy it will be to maintain and keep these sneakers looking fresh. Fingers crossed that the canvas and suede stay black without much effort or care needed.
When mock-ups of this shoe started floating around the net, I had high hopes for the actual shoe and Jordan brand didn’t disappoint.
You simply can’t go wrong with an ‘all-black’ Air Jordan 4 and what makes this shoe even more appealing is its resemblance to the iconic Eminem and Black Cement colorways that many have come to covet and admire.
How is the Craftsmanship?
Sadly enough, when it comes to materials and overall craftsmanship, I don’t expect a whole lot from Jordan Brand these days. Even with the new $10 increase in retail prices in 2022, you just never know what you’re going to get on either front.
With that being said, I was pretty pleased with the pairs I was able to get my hands on. No glaring issues with construction, but as I eluded to above, your experience may be different due to inconsistencies with Jordan Brand’s quality control measures.
What Are The Materials Like?
Suede: The hits of black suede that appear around the shoe’s toe area feel similar to suedes found on prior Jordan releases. It has a decent nap (texture) but isn’t as premium by any stretch of the imagination. It’s not used much, but just enough to make a subtle yet major impact on the shoe’s overall look and feel.
Canvas: Prior to getting these in hand, I was most concerned with how sturdy the canvas material of this shoe was going to feel and to my surprise, it works well. It’s sturdy enough, but not overly stiff which will lend to the shoe being relatively comfortable.
The only question left to be answered regarding the upper will be its durability. Compared to leather, we’ll have to see how well this pair holds up over time and if they’re a pair you’ll have to wear with extreme cause. My guess is that they’ll be okay if you treat them with a good protectant before you put them on the pavement.

How To Clean
Due to the delicate nature of this shoe’s materials, here are a few ‘suede-friendly’ products to consider copping if keeping your “Black Canvas” fresh is a top priority.

How Comfortable Is The Air Jordan 4?
As mentioned in other Air Jordan 4 reviews, this Air Jordan 4 retro is essentially an ‘80s basketball shoe that hasn’t had any major tech updates since the original release. Because of this, you can’t expect to the blown away by its comfort, but it’s not a bad option for casual wear. It’s definitely not a bad option when you’re styling and profiling or just making moves around town.
Midsole Comfort: Initial step-in comfort is firm, but gets better with each wear. As a guy who wears a lot of runners, I can definitely feel how much more rigid the sneaker’s midsole is compared to runners which are more flexible.
Upper Comfort The canvas upper feels good to the foot upon entry. One thing to note is that the shoe obviously doesn’t offer much breathability so keep that in mind when choosing to wear your AJ4s in the warmer weather.

How Does The Air Jordan 4 “Black Canvas” Fit?
For me, I choose to go with my normal Nike size (US12) when buying Air Jordan 4s and they fit comfortably. Going with this size allows me to wear my shoes untied without having to worry about foot slippage or foot pain.
In-Between Sizes: If you’re someone who happens to be in between sizes, I’d recommend going with your larger size.
Narrow Feet: For those with narrow feet, I’d still recommend going with your normal Nike size.
Wide Feet: I’ve come across some people who say they like to go a half-size up in Air Jordan 4s to alleviate any pressure on the pinky toe.
