T.R.I. Rating

Air Jordan 3 "Fire Red" | $210 | Sep. 2022

Pros: Nike Air Branding and OG Shape

  • The Nike Air logo on the back is what it’s all about. OG over everything!

  • The classic shape and application of the elephant print looks amazing. Makes me want the previously released OGs in this same configuration.

Cons: Price Tag

  • I’m sorry, you’ll have to give me a minute. Sometimes it’s hard for me to process that I forked over $227 after-tax to own a pair of these. Yikes! I love the shoes, but DAMN!

My Initial Impressions

At this stage in my sneaker journey, I’d have to say that OG releases bring me the most excitement and anticipation these days. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy other releases, but there’s just something about getting the colorways that MJ wore during his playing days.

Over the past couple of years, Jordan Brand has done a great job of giving us authentic reproductions of the original sneakers that were originally released. Paying attention to the details that most enthusiasts enjoy.

The Quality

How is the Craftsmanship?

With Jordan Brand mass producing so many pairs of sneakers each release, you’re bound to experience questionable craftsmanship, however, I was happy with the pairs I received. The midsole was painted cleanly and I didn’t see many glue marks on the upper. With a $210 price tag, I believe delivering a well-constructed shoe is the least they could do.

What Are The Materials Like?

Leather: The leather upper is pretty on-par with what you can expect from Jordan Brand when it comes to the Jordan 3. The majority of the shoe is covered in a tumbled leather that feels nice and pliable in the hand. The smooth leather that’s found wrapping around the lower portion of the shoe is decent, but nothing to write home about.

Elephant Print: The elephant print panels on the toe and heel area are what I was most interested to see on this shoe and I am pleased with how they turned out. The panels are synthetic but don’t feel cheap like retro 3s from prior years.

How To Clean

Due to the delicate nature of this shoe’s materials, here are a few ‘suede-friendly’ products to consider copping if keeping your “Black Canvas” fresh is a top priority.

The Comfort

2022 Air Jordan 3 Retro "Fire Red"

How Comfortable Is The Air Jordan 4?

Considering it was initially released back in 1988, the Air Jordan 3 is a fairly comfortable shoe for what it is. It won’t blow you away, but the shoe’s visible air unit does provide enough comfort for casual wear and should hold up during most wearings as long as you don’t push them too far. As always, for added comfort, you can opt for after-market insoles that could add additional cushioning if needed.

  • Midsole Comfort: Initial step-in comfort is firm, but gets better with each wear. As a guy who wears a lot of runners, I can feel how much more rigid the sneaker’s midsole is compared to more flexible runners.

  • Upper Comfort The all-leather upper feels good to the foot upon entry. One thing to note is that the shoe obviously doesn’t offer much breathability so keep that in mind when choosing to wear your AJ3s in the warmer weather.

Fit and Sizing

How Does The 2022 Air Jordan 3 Retro "Fire Red" Fit?

I usually wear a US12 (11.5 occasionally) in most Nike and Jordan Brand shoes, and that’s what I prefer to wear in the Air Jordan 3. Now I can admit that I prefer to wear my shoes on the snug side, but even being a big guy with chubbier feet the size 12 works and doesn’t feel snug with AJ3s.

In-Between Sizes: If you’re someone who happens to be in between sizes, I’d recommend going with your larger size.

Narrow Feet: For those with narrow feet, I’d still recommend going with your normal Nike size.

Wide Feet: I’ve come across some people who say they like to go a half-size up in Air Jordan 3s to alleviate any pressure on the pinky toe.
