A crisp white leather upper provides the base, accented by translucent mesh side panels and signature reflective detailing. The standout feature is the black reflective tongue, which replaces the silver tongue found on the more common “Fire Red” version, giving this pair its “Black Tongue” nickname. Originally released in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 was designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield and introduced several firsts for the Air Jordan line—most notably the reflective 3M tongue, translucent outsole, and lace lock system.
Inspired by World War II fighter planes, the shoe’s aggressive midsole design gave it a bold and battle-ready look. While Michael Jordan wore the “Fire Red” colorway on court during the 1989–90 NBA season, this particular version—featuring the black tongue—was less common and has since become a cult favorite among collectors.
