Sneaker Quality:
In a nutshell: Jordan brand is notorious for being inconsistent with shoe quality, however, the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Crimson Tint” happens to be one of their better shoes. Although the “pink” portions of the shoe could be better, the majority of the shoe (black leather), is above average.
Sneaker Materials:
The Crimson Tint Air Jordan 1, mainly features black, pebbled leather that happens to feel softer than expected. It’s definitely higher in quality than the similar material used in last year’s City Of Flight Air Jordan 1s.
On the downside, corners were cut with the pink portions of the shoe which are made up of a smooth synthetic leather, that we think will crease easily.
Ending things on a brighter note, Nike/JB opted to go with a neoprene ankle collar that instantly feels a step above the normal textile material. It’s something we hope they continue with future versions.
Sneaker Construction:
We happened to get our hands on both a Men’s & GS pair of this sneaker, and both sneakers were constructed exceptionally well. No major defects in the stitching department, or any other of these shoes elements.
Of course, this is always on a case by case basis, so we can’t guarantee you’ll be so lucky if you decide to purchase a pair.
Fit & Comfort:
In a nutshell: It’s not the best, but it’s far from the worst as far as comfort goes. I mean really…it’s a 80s retro basketball shoe, so the expectations can’t really be that high. Sizing is pretty much true, but of course, that’s always for you to determine. Everyone’s feet and preferences are different.
Overall Fit
As far as fit is concerned, this shoe is pretty much true to size, however, folks with narrower feet or those who prefer a more snug fit, should opt to go a 1/2 size down from their normal size.
Me personally, I go with a 11.5 in Jordan 1s, but usually wear a 12 in most other models. This seems to help with creasing in the toe-box area, if that’s something you’re concerned with.
Upper Comfort
With this shoe in particular, people were concerned with how the textured/pebbled would feel. In the limited amount of time we had the shoe on foot, there was no issue with comfort with the shoe’s upper.
It performed just as any other Jordan 1 would straight out of the box. It’s rigid at first, but will eventually begin to soften up over time, after a few wears.
Also worth noting, the neoprene material making up the ankle collar is a nice touch that improves the overall comfort of the shoe. There seems to be less friction against the heel, in comparison to the normal textile material.
Cushioning
As with most 80s retro sneakers, the comfort is not on par with modern shoes. However, the shoe isn’t terrible either. There’s very little bounce or responsiveness to the shoe, which is to be expected, so I wouldn’t suggest going on long walks in the park with these shoes.
Style & Value:
In a nutshell: Air Jordan 1 High OGs have been the “it” retro sneaker for the last few years and this shoe is an example of Nike/Jordan Brand covering all of its bases when it comes to style.
It takes the classic silhouette, and merges it with a “high-fashion” color palette that’s rare for the segment. Although this shoe won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, it isn’t meant to be. It’s for the fashion forward consumer who values “different”.
VALUE
Coming in at $160, the “Crimson Tints” aren’t the most budget friendly sneaker, however, the retail price comes in well below other Jordan retros.
Overall, the quality of the sneaker is ‘meh’, but the shoe’s “style-factor” more than makes up for it in our opinion.
As it stands now, this classic sneaker currently brings a lot of bang for the buck. You simply can’t go wrong with the Air Jordan 1 High “Crimson Tint”.
